The Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo has advised Thai nationals in Japan to monitor aftershocks after a magnitude 6.9–7.2 offshore earthquake struck Iwate, with authorities confirming no tsunami threat.

Ceremonies were held Tuesday to mark 14 years since the 2011 quake and tsunami in Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima, the hardest-hit prefectures in northeast Japan.
